SIDBI moves to cut SME credit risk
On the lines of the credit guarantee fund trust for small industries (CGTSI), the Small Industries Development Bank of India (Sidbi) is planning to come up with a new risk mitigation schemes for small and medium enterprise lending shortly.

New agri-business policy for Gujarat within two months
With its focus on employment generation and development of the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) for next five years, the Gujarat government is likely to dole out dozens of sops and incentives to enhance competitiveness of SME units operating in agriculture. The creation of the Cluster Advisory Institute (CAI) to speed up cluster development is also on the cards. |

Bar coding to protect SMEs
The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) of the region will now be protected from imitation. The MSME Development Institute, Kanpur, has proposed a plan envisaging the use of bar codes to prevent fake products from reaching the market.

The National Knowledge Commission, chaired by Mr Sam Pitroda, has suggested establishing a stock exchange for small companies, and creating instruments to enable the firms to raise initial capital.
